With the overwhelming success of the Mansfield district's reputation for trail rides, the area is now cracking with a variety of different adventure activities available. If you're after somewhere a little different to stay and want to be "at one" with the bush, try this for an experience to remember........
STOCKYARD CREEK HOMESTEAD Formerly the starting point for all Stoneys Bluff and Beyond Trail Rides, Stockyard homestead is well known to many of our former guests. Now, Stockyard is being offered for rental accommodation by Wendy and Graeme Stoney. Stockyard homestead is situated in the Howqua Hills area of the Howqua Valley It was carved out of virgin bush by hand by the late Jack Ware and other members of the Ware family in the 1880's. It has also been the setting for many movies, television and promotions. These include "The Man from Snowy River 2", "Cool Change" "High Country", "Banjo's Australia" and "Lawsons Australia", and a documentary on the Mountain Cattlemen. On the property is Ben's Hut which was built for the telemovie "High Country" and "The Professor's" built by the late Professor Maxwell and is a classic example of how bush saplings, wattles, bark and kerosene tins can be used to make a truly Australian bush hut. The Homestead: Comprises 6 rooms for sleeping and can take a total of 33 people. There is a large bunk room which sleeps 21 with both single and double bunks and a smaller bunkroom which sleeps 4. There are four double bedrooms. All beds have covered foam mattresses and pillows. There is also plenty of covered space for extra swags to be rolled out. Firewood, cutlery, crockery, glassware and cooking utensils are supplied and the kitchen includes a commercial gas stove and gas fridge. Outdoor fire, BBQ, lounge and dining room with large open fire and doors opening onto the lakeside deck. Two showers, basins and 3 toilets make up the homestead. Telephone is connected and no mobile reception available You bring: bedding,
sheets blankets, doonas, sleeping bags etc. All bathroom gear.
All food you require. HORSES are welcome. Bring your own weed-free feed. You will have use of the horse yards, house paddock and cattle yards. No charge for horses. RATES: Small Groups of
