MEDIA FEATURES

Over the years there has been much involvement with the media. From feature films, to adverts, journalists to photographers and many more, we have worked with them all. Chris Stoney also uses his knowledge of the mountains as a location scout resulting in many jobs for locals and support crew in the town.

You may have seen us and our country in the film 'The Man from Snowy River' and
'The Man From Snowy River 2'
. However we have also featured in;

Sunday Herald Sun
Sunday Age - 'High Country Canters'
Good Leisure Guide - Morgan
Talk to the Animals (Australian television series)
ABC TV
'Holiday' - Canberra Times

Hoofs & Horns - Profile Chris Stoney, for the second time  on his mountain racing career, race training and horse breeding.  (1989 and 1992). Chris, though he hates to admit it was a hero to many at the time when the mountain racing sport was at its peak. He consistently performed at the highest levels on different horses each time, going on to breed more winners from his best early horses.

Adventure Horseriding
- Sue Beeton
Adventuring in Australia - Sierra Club, Books USA
RM William's Outback Magazine - Issue 2, Main Story (Feb1999)
New York Times - 'Sophisticated Traveller' magazine (1999)
'High Country Canters' - Kendal Airlines In flight magazine (2000)

'They catch horses don't they?' by Andrew Rule, Saturday Agenda, Main feature, The Age Newspaper. (2000)
A gritty and confronting article addressing the complexities behind the Australian High Country, wild horses, and the management of numbers.

NBC America's 'Olympic Postcards' (Sept 2000)
About 6 months pre 2000 Olympics a great crew came out from the States to film here at Craigs Hut. 8 locals took part in the shoot which was one of the most popular in the series. This photo was taken off the top of Mt Stirling at 6am just as the sun was coming up.

IMAX film "Equus - The Story of the Horse" (filmed 2001) Chris, Marty Myors, Jed Culican and Sally Manning all rode in this. We hosted the horses at Minto whilst they filmed on location, and Chris also found locations for the filming here in the area.

'Ride with the wild brumbies' - Main Feature. Australian GEO magazine (2001), also by Andrew Rule.

"Danger Celeb' at Work" UK BBC TV with Angela Rippon (July 2001) This show commisoned by the BBC, is a 'throw the poor celeb in at the deep end and see how they go type'!  Angela was excellent help and did well enough on her fast and furious "training" to go on and help us bring the cattle back from the bush.

'Postcards', Channel 9 on the Victorian Ansett Australia State Tourism Awards (Aug 2001). Filming for this one was interesting. Some of the horses bucking, (being filmed in winter they didn't appreciate being dragged in from the paddock for the cameras), and then one of the guys getting whacked in the eye in the scrub and bruising badly !  However the editing room sorted that out, thank goodness !

Launch of Stoneys High Country Store and the Stoney's own documentary, 'The Ride to Snowy River'. It was a great night, caught on camera riding into the cinema in Mansfield, and outside the shop was Chris, taking the opportunity to champion the cause of the Mountain Cattlemen, and the rights to graze in the High Country.
